Octuplet Names Revealed

Bravely overcoming the challenge of thinking of eight names for her octuplets, Los Angeles-area resident Nadya Suleman has chosen mostly Biblical names: Maliah, Noah, Jonah, Isaiah, Nariah, Jeremiah, McCai, and Josiah.

Have you ever wondered how many people have the same name as you? Howmanyofme.com attempts to answer that question (with a long, and slightly humorous, caveat).

  1. I am really curious how she expects to take care of 14 children. One has to be all consuming, imagine 14. What's feeding time like?

  2. She has said that she wants to breast-feed all the octuplets. The other six are beyond breast-feeding age (I hope).

I have been thinking of cost. The US Department of Agriculture published a study on how much families spend on their children. Level of expenditure depends on a number of factors, but from what I gather, it will cost her about $8,450 per year, per child - $67,600 for the eight - and slowly go up from there as the children get older. To raise the octuplets, plus the six other children, all to the age of 18, I calculate she'll spend at least about $2,110,000 over the next 19 years, not counting inflation.

  3. Wow! I am glad you did the math. She's a single mother living with her parents. Sometimes, when people have a large number of babies, companies will donate food, diapers etc. There was none of that this time. She'll have to sell her story to make money to care for those kids.

  4. According to Newsday, she is "being deluged with offers for book deals, TV shows and other business proposals" but hasn't decided on which road to take yet.

In the meantime, she hired a PR firm, Kileen & Furtney Group, who will undoubtedly help her figure out how to monetize her newfound celebrity status.

  5. It's an interesting story. She already talked to NBC. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/29086126/
She has to pick soon otherwise we won't care. We'll move on to the next hot topic.

  6. I'm sure she'll pick whichever deal pays the most. And there's NO way she can breastfeed all of those kids, her boobs won't be ablt to keep up!! And what happened with McCai's name? She run out of things that end in 'ah'? He must be the least favorite - the ugly duckling.

  7. She thought she'd have another 6 for an even dozen so she might have ran out of names. The idea of breast feeding 8 kids conjurs up images of a dog and her puppies. That's probably not fair.
